Here is the checklist we would use if we were the buyer.
1. Insist on full-cycle production under one roof
Denim quality is decided in the hand-offs: pattern to cutting, sewing to laundry, laundry to finishing. When those stages live in different subcontracted workshops, tolerance errors stack up and lead times stretch. Ask directly: which stages happen inside your own facility? At ASF Jeans, pattern making, sampling, fabric testing, cutting, sewing, washing, dyeing, quality control and export packing all happen inside one manufacture in Istanbul's Giyimkent district — which is why a fit comment on Monday can be a corrected sample on Thursday.
2. Ask how washes are documented
Anyone can produce one beautiful sample. The question is whether piece number four thousand matches it. A serious factory records every wash as a written recipe — stones, enzymes, time, temperature, load — and can re-run it months later. If a manufacturer cannot explain their recipe system, the bulk will drift.
3. Check the hardware and fabric policy
Substituted zippers and mystery fabric blends are where cheap production hides. Ask for the fabric composition in writing (cotton percentage, elastane content, weight in ounces) and confirm the hardware brand. We work with original YKK only, and fabrics from 9 to 14.2 oz in 100% cotton, cotton-elastane, selvedge and PFD qualities.
4. Test the communication before you test the product
Send a real inquiry and measure three things: speed, precision and honesty. A factory that answers within a day, asks intelligent questions about your tech pack, and tells you plainly what it cannot do is a factory you can build seasons with. Our standard is a formal quotation — fabric options, timeline, price — within 24 hours.
5. Visit, or ask for a live tour
Istanbul is a three-hour flight from most European capitals. A one-day visit tells you more than a month of emails: look for organised fabric storage, clean sewing lines, a working laundry and a real quality-control table. If you cannot travel, ask for a video walkthrough — a confident manufacturer will show you everything.

- What is the MOQ per style and per colour — and is it negotiable for a first collection?
- How are wash recipes recorded and repeated?
- What fabric compositions and weights do you stock or source?
- Whose hardware do you use?
- What is the sampling lead time, and the bulk lead time in weeks?
- Can you produce with our labels, patches and packaging?
- Which markets do you already export to?
